Oh you make me proud. If all this is intelligent design, who designed the designer? The silly thing here is that intelligent design proponents are going to work themselves out of exisitence. As you said the "if it can't be explained, it must be because of God's design" mentality is entirely flawed. How scary it must be to have your belief chipped away every time science discovers something new. "Gaps" in scientific knowledge disappear every day, and if you're looking for God in the gaps, pretty soon you'll be in trouble. It's like that arguement that the eye is so complex it had to be designed. Well, you may think it's complex, but scientists like to ask difficult questions and solve these types of problems, so now we know more about the eye, and, poof, there goes one of your arguments for God. Like you said, science seeks evidence, and religion seems to fear it. And if any (real) evidence came about that refuted Darwinian Evolution, science would throw out this theory and start over, because that's what scientists do. That's why religion and science can never come together in intelligent design. Religion was theory first: "God made the earth, here is some evidence why, ignore the rest", and Science is evidence above all: "All this evidence (a,b,c...x,y,z) for the past 200 years of scientific exploration has led us to Darwinian Evolution, but if some evidence comes along that doesn't support it, we will find a new theory that fits ALL the evidence". Anyways, good post, and you're right about Stein taking quotes out of context and trying to look like a martyr.
